  • Find information about images and videos on each page
  • Check when pages were last modified
  • Analyse the website's structure

  2. Alternatively, locate the Sitemap Explorer under the "Pagescan" navigation in the top menu bar.

Understanding Sitemaps

Before we dive into using the tool, let's clarify two important terms:

  1. Sitemap Index: This is a file that lists other sitemaps. If a website has a large number of pages, it might have several sitemaps, all linked from a central index.
  2. URL Set: This is a file that directly lists the URLs of a website's pages. It often includes additional data such as when each page was last updated, the images on the page, or embedded videos.

Getting Started

  1. On the Sitemap Explorer page, you'll see a form with a text input field labeled "Enter URL or domain".

Exploring a Website's Sitemap

  1. Enter the website URL you want to explore in the input field.
    • You can enter a full URL (e.g.,https://www.example.com) or just the domain (e.g., example.com).
  2. Click the "Submit" button
  3. Wait for the tool to process the request. This may take a few moments.

Understanding the Results

Sitemap Index

If the website has a sitemap index (a list of multiple sitemaps), you'll see:

  • A list of links to individual sitemaps.
  • Each link will show when it was last modified.

To explore a specific sitemap:

  1. Click on any of the sitemap links in the list.
  2. The tool will fetch and display the contents of that specific sitemap.

Individual Sitemap (URL Set)

When viewing an individual sitemap, you'll see:

  • A table with information about each URL in the sitemap.
  • The table may include:
    • URL: The web address of the page.
    • Last Modified: When the page was last updated.
    • Image Count: Number of images on the page (if available).
    • Video Info: Details about videos on the page (if any).
    • News Count: Number of news articles (for news websites).
