Best Practices for Competitor Management
Selecting the Right Competitors
- Focus on direct competitors - Businesses that offer similar products or services
- Include aspirational competitors - Larger companies you aim to compete with
- Monitor emerging competitors - New players in your market with growing keyword overlap
- Balance quantity with quality - It's better to track 5-10 relevant competitors closely than 20 superficially
Regularly Reviewing Your Competitor List
- Monthly reviews - Check your competitor list once a month to ensure it remains relevant
- After industry changes - Update your list when new competitors emerge or after major market shifts
- Seasonal adjustments - Some competitors may be more relevant during certain times of the year
Using Competitor Insights Effectively
- Look for keyword gaps - Identify keywords your competitors rank for that you don't
- Content analysis - Study what type of content performs well for your competitors
- Track movements - Note when competitors gain or lose significant keyword positions

Check the following:
- Ensure you've selected both a Search Group and Search Engine

- Try selecting a different, more popular search group
Some competitors are missing from my list
Potential reasons:
- The competitor might not rank for enough shared keywords to be included
- Recent algorithm updates may have changed competitor rankings
- The competitor may be new and not yet included in the database
My changes aren't saving
If you experience issues saving your competitor setup:
- Make sure you've selected at least one competitor
